The Twiggs County Public Schools Department of Special Education serves the special needs population. Special Education is a service for any student 3-21 years of age considered to have a disability under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Twiggs County’s students with disabilities are provided specialized instruction and related services by a dedicated staff of professional and support personnel. The staff consists of certified elementary, middle, high school teachers and administrators. These teachers and paraprofessionals work collaboratively with school staff and parents to assure that students with disabilities are provided appropriate learning experiences and opportunities.
The Twiggs County school system provides psychological services, social services, counseling services, and a parent mentor. The parent mentor serves as the liaison between the schools, students and parents. The students are offered an opportunity to earn a high school diploma and will be able to participate in a community-based program. Our goal is to assist school personnel with implementing the co-teaching model that will maximize the student achievement for the special education population.
